Wu Bai is an artist and curator who specialises in making and selling teawares.
His works usually surround a technique called kohiki (粉引), with its origins dating back to the 15th century during the Joseon Dynasty. The process involves forming vessels using darker coloured clay, then applying a layer of white slip and finally glazed in a transparent or ash glaze to give the piece its soft white appearance.

With frequent use of his teawares, the fine cracks and lines in the kohiki slip gradually become more pronounced.

This natural change known as kannyū, is not considered a flaw, but a valued characteristic of kohiki wares. Over time, the vessel records traces of tea, water, and daily use, allowing each piece to age uniquely alongside its owner - a quiet reflection of time, care, and the tea culture that embraces imperfection and impermanence.

Please handle with care.

Each piece is made slowly, and small variations in size, colour, surface texture, form, and natural markings are part of the natural material’s expression and individuality.
